Hi, my name is Marc Perry. I live in New York City and I’m from Long Island, NY.
As long as I can remember, I’ve had an intense desire to develop a strong, lean, athletic body. I started with bodyweight workouts when I was 12 years old, then weightlifting when I was 16 years old, while devouring every fitness magazine and exercise book I could find. I developed a decent build as a Division I athlete at Yale, but after graduating college, my physical condition took a turn for the worse…big time.
I gained 30 pounds of fat my first year in the work force as an investment analyst and tipped the scales at 200 pounds (I’m 5’11” and was 170 pounds in season as a college athlete). It turns out I can’t get away with eating 5,000 calories a day, drinking 3 nights a week, while spending most of my time sitting on my butt staring at a computer. I looked like crap and felt even worse. I knew it was time to make a change in my life, but given my really intense work schedule, I needed to figure out efficient exercise methods and nutrition strategies to look like an athlete while being a desk jockey.
In the next few years, I applied the research skills I honed as an investment analyst to learn more about exercise, nutrition, and physique transformation (i.e. getting a ripped six pack). I spoke to natural bodybuilders, fitness models, and nutritionists, experimented with several different exercise programs and diets, and hit the books hard.
Over time, I developed exercise programs and nutrition strategies that were extremely effective, yet required little time investment. I only worked out 3 times a week for around 45 minutes to get my body fat down to 5%, despite a sedentary existence. I had a better body, was stronger, and healthier than when I was a college athlete.
I ended up leaving the finance world to start a personal training and fitness coaching business. I got the top certifications in the fitness field (NSCA-CSCS and ACE-CPT) and spent countless hours training people of various ages and fitness levels to deepen my knowledge and experience. I’ve even been featured on TV for my expertise in helping busy people get leaner bodies through efficient strength training.
I started BuiltLean because I want to help. I think my desire to help you improve your health is in my blood; my Dad is a doctor and my Mom was a nurse (she had to cut her career short to raise four kids). I’ve also realized I have an almost scary ability to get people psyched about getting in great shape. So if I can inspire you to improve your health and get the body you want, then all the hard work that goes into maintaining this free resource is worth it.
So how the heck did I get my body fat down to 5% despite sitting on my butt all day long? How did I help many busy people drop fat without losing muscle so they could see their abs for the first time since they were 7 years old? The first place to start is by checking out my free Get Lean Guide. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I encourage you to leave comments and be a part of the conversation. It’s way more fun and engaging that way.
I sincerely hope the information I share with you is helpful!
Here’s to Your Health,
Marc Perry, CSCS, ACE-CPT
